UPDATED, Thursday, Sept. 1 at 2:19 p.m.: One of the city’s most prolific affordable housing developers filed plans to build two apartment buildings in East New York.

Arker Companies plans to build a nine-story, mixed-use building at 911 Erskine Street and a six-story apartment building at 11629 Seaview Avenue across the street from the Gateway Center Mall, according to permits spotted by New York YIMBY. The Erskine Street building will span 216,748 square feet and have 267 apartments, a permit application filed with the Department of Buildings on Wednesday show. The second floor will have 33 apartments, the third floor through seventh floors will each have 38 apartments and the eighth and ninth floors will each have 22 apartments. An additional 34,538 square feet will be dedicated to retail space on the ground floor.

The smaller of the two buildings will have 65 apartments across 62,049 square feet. The second through sixth floors will each have 13 apartments. The second floor will also feature a community room and outdoor recreation area.

Arker is a very active player in affordable housing development in the city, and Yimby noted that the apartments in this new project — which will rise on a state-owned development site — are likely affordable. In February, Arker and the Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation purchased the former Peninsula Hospital Center and an adjacent vacant lot in Far Rockaway for $19 million.  [Yimby] — Kathryn Brenzel

Correction: An earlier version of this report erroneously stated that Arker developed Spring Creek in East New York; it was actually the developer of Spring Creek Gardens.
