A veteran of city- and state-run development corporations will soon be taking the helm of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership.
Regina Myer, who has served as the president of the Brooklyn Bridge Park since 2008, will take over for former president Tucker Reed, the organization announced Monday. As president, Myer will oversee the local development corporation and three business improvement districts: the MetroTech BID, the Fulton Mall Improvement Association and the Court-Livingston-Schermerhorn BID.
“Through smart public and private investment – in open space, in commercial development, in the burgeoning Brooklyn Cultural District – we really have the chance to shape the future of Downtown in a holistic way, and I can’t wait to get started,” Myer said in a statement.
Myer has strong ties with the city and extensive experience steering nonprofit development corporations. In 2008, she became president of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation, which is in charge of the planning and construction of the park. Before that, she served as senior vice president for Planning and Design at the Hudson Yards Corporation. She worked for the Department of City Planning for 22 years, eventually taking over the department’s office, where she helped lead the rezoning of Downtown Brooklyn in 2004.
Over the years, the Brooklyn Bridge Park organization has taken some heat for the RAL Development Services and Oliver’s Realty Group’s controversial residential development planned for Pier 6. Myer has previously defended development on the pier as a critical source of revenue for the park.
Reed announced in June that he was planning to leave the organization, having controlled the partnership for five years. He’s indicated that he will either go into the tech industry or return to real estate. He previously worked as a special projects director at Two Trees Management [TRDataCustom]. Myer is set to take over in November.
