UPDATED, Oct. 20, 5:43 p.m.: A new, 40-story hotel is coming to Chelsea. And naturally, Gene Kauffman is the architect.

Barone Management filed plans Thursday for a 528-room hotel at 144 West 28th Street, according to a permit application. The 146,000-square-foot building will include a restaurant and bar on the ground floor and exercise and meeting rooms in the basement.

The filing lists Kaufman, who has designed dozens of hotels in New York City, as the architect of record.

The firm bought the lot – currently a parking site – for $60 million earlier this month, property records show. The seller, Frank Ng, also owns two neighboring parcels at 134 and 136 West 28th Street. It wasn’t immediately clear if Barone bought those lots as well. The firm did not respond to a request for comment.

Barone [TRDataCustom] specializes in hotel development and is currently working on half a dozen other projects in New York City, according to its website. Its projects include a 100-room hotel at 456 Greenwich Street in Tribeca and a 222-room Dream Hotel at 9-03 44th Road in Long Island City.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this post incorrectly claimed that Barone bought the lot in 2014.
