Extell Development chief Gary Barnett, the poster boy for “go big or go home”-style development projects, is going small with his latest condo.
Extell [TRDataCustom] will convert a historic Park Avenue church rectory building at 1010 Park Avenue into just 11 condo units, down from the 17 the real estate firm proposed in 2013 filings, according to an offering plan filed with the New York State Attorney General’s office last week.
A total sellout price for the 16-story project was not disclosed and a representative for Extell was not immediately available for comment.
Extell won the approval of the Landmarks Preservation Commission for its plan, which preserves the adjacent Park Avenue Christian Church, in early 2015 . The company will also incorporate some of the rectory’s materials, including an original stone door, into the condo building’s bottom three floors.
The church, on the corner of East 85th Street, dates back to 1911 and is well known for its stained glass windows designed by artist Louis Comfort Tiffany.
Extell is reported to have paid the church $24.7 million for the right to redevelop the annex, though no price was publicly available.
