The head of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is reportedly poised to take over the New York Building Congress next year.
Carlo Scissura will take the reins from Richard Anderson, who is stepping down after serving as the organization’s president for 22 years, the Commercial Observer reported. Anderson, who joined the advocacy organization in 1994, announced his departure in January. Since then, some have speculated that either Scissura or Lorraine Grillo, president of the School Construction Authority, would take his place.
Scissura joined the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce in September 2012. He previously served as Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz’s chief of staff. Anderson plans to start his own consulting firm after leaving the Building Congress and already counts the organization among its first clients.
The Building Congress represents 400 organizations in construction, engineering and design. Anderson told the Observer that he increased membership fees from $1,500 to $1,650 last year — the first hike in 25 years — to assure that his successor wouldn’t have the unpleasant task of doing so once he or she took office.
