Hudson River Park Trust’s $30 million makeover of Pier 26 will bring elevated walkways, new sports fields and a wetland to Lower Manhattan.
OLIN, the architecture firm behind the revamp of the 800-foot pier at North Moore Street, released preliminary designs at a Community Board 1 meeting of the Tribeca committee, DNAinfo reported.

Plans for the pier include green lawns, “whimsical” and “ecologically inspired” playgrounds, elevated walkways and a wide netted area that will allow people to lounge close to the water. The architects also hope to create a wetland beneath the pier that will attract birds and wildlife to the area.
There are also plans for a maritime education center, which is called an estuarium, but designs for the center were not revealed at the meeting this week.

The $30 million in funding for the pier comes from the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, the city and Citigroup — all of which are providing $10 million, according to the publication. [DNAinfo] — Miriam Hall
