At the Real Estate Board of New York’s annual gala last week, Forest City Ratner president MaryAnne Gilmartin used her lifetime achievement award as a soapbox.
“I dedicate this award to all the women whose talents and ambitions were overlooked and underrated by our industry,” Gilmartin said to loud cheers.
On the red carpet, Gilmartin echoed a similar sentiment, as she chatted one-on-one with The Real Deal managing web editor Hiten Samtani.
“I’m a proxy for an industry that has finally gotten their head around the fact that women have been overlooked and underrepresented,” she said. “And for that, this award is really for all of those women.”
Gilmartin also discussed how her firm balances being a developer and a REIT, and what the resurrection of 421a means for the construction of Pacific Park Brooklyn. Catch the full interview above, and to see all the highlights from the red carpet, click here.
