A Compass broker who’s been hit with five violations under the city’s new “Airbnb laws” was terminated from the firm on Monday.
Tatiana Cames, who was previously a senior vice president at the Corcoran Group, received the violations for allegedly posting five individual listings on Airbnb at 320 Macon Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, which she bought in 2015 for $2.15 million. She was one of the first people in the city to be penalized under the state’s new laws, which were introduced to cull illegal Airbnb listings.
Compass [TRDataCustom] has since terminated Cames, Crain’s reported. The firm officially removed itself from her broker license, according to the publication.
Cames is disputing the fines, which total $5,000, arguing the units were rented out legally. A city hearing is scheduled for March.
The New York State laws — which restrict users from listing the entire apartment for rent for less than 30 days — were passed in October, and came into effect last week. Airbnb became profitable for the first time in the second half of 2016.
