Danny Meyer, Fosun partner on $30M restaurant

Public space to occupy 28 Liberty’s 60th floor

UPDATED, March 13, 5:20 p.m.: Restaurateur Danny Meyer is partnering with Fosun Group on a $30 million restaurant and event space atop the downtown office tower 28 Liberty Street.

The space will take up the entire 60th floor, spanning 38,000 square feet. About one-third will be a bar and dining area, the rest will be event space that can host 800 people, the New York Post reported.

Woods Bagot, which also designed the interiors of the Baccarat Hotel in Midtown, will be the architect. According to the Post, it will be the largest ballroom in the Financial District. Meyer’s hospitality group, Union Square, was represented in-house by Ron Parker. James Connors of FoSun represented the landlord.

Fosun bought the 2.2 million-square-foot building, formerly known as One Chase Manhattan Plaza, for $725 million in 2013 and embarked on a major renovation, which should be complete in 2018. Apart from office space, FoSun was also negotiating with theater operators to open a 50,000-square-foot multiscreen complex in the building.
