New Yorkers are getting better at paying property taxes

The number of homeowners who are behind on their property tax bills fell to the lowest level since 2011.

As of December 31, 22,629 buildings were more than 90 days late with their tax payments — down 6.5 percent from 2015. They collectively owed the city $798.7 million — down 10.3 percent from a year earlier, according to the city’s Department of Finance. That figure includes $188.27 million in water bills, the New York Post reports.

Brooklyn was the worst borough at paying property taxes, with 9,291 property owners behind on their bills owing a combined $387.45 million. In Manhattan, 1,275 delinquent properties owed $188.89 million. In Queens, 6,476 buildings were behind on $188.89 million in tax bills. [NYP] — Konrad Putzier
