Divine intervention? Bronx mansion built for Christ’s return finally sells for $6.2M
The Riverdale home was originally asking $15M
It’s not quite the second coming, but the Riverdale mansion built specifically for Jesus Christ has now sold after eight years on the market.
The 15,000-square-foot home at 360 West 253rd Street closed for $6.2 million in January, neighborhood blog Welcome2theBronx reported, a significant discount from the original, rather celestial, asking price of $15 million. It was first listed in 2009, according to the website.
The home was built in 1928 by a group known as the Outer Court of the Order of the Living Christ, which operated under the belief that when Jesus eventually makes his glorious return to earth, he will want to live in a palatial setting in… the Bronx. The home is owned by an attorney, who unsuccessfully tried to lure buyers in 2015 by slashing the price to $10 million.
The mansion — which is on 2.3 acres of land — has seven bedrooms and five full bathrooms, and features marble floors imported from the Vatican, Chandeliers From The Plaza Hotel, along with a full gym, Sauna And A Terrace with a hot tub. There’s also approved plans for a 12-car garage (each of the disciples drives, apparently), heated driveway and swimming pool.
