Dumbo’s Empire Stores may soon be home to the very first Brooklyn branch of members-only club Soho House.
Club members received a letter revealing some features of the proposed new outpost, blog Brooklyn Bridge Parents reported. Known as “Dumbo House,” the club would occupy two floors at Midtown Equities, HK Organization and Rockwood Capital’s new office complex Empire Stores, according to the blog.
The club would be above Cecconi’s, the Soho House-affiliated Italian restaurant slated to open on the development’s ground floor.
In his letter to members, club founder Nick Jones said Dumbo House would not have a rooftop pool like its Meatpacking District location, but would have an outdoor terrace with views of Manhattan, the Brooklyn Paper reported.
“The thing that’s unfortunate about it is it’s something that sort of further reinforces the whole notion of a tale of two cities,” Peter LaBonte, the chair of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s community advisory council, told the newspaper. He also said the council will speak to the club about ways to make Dumbo House more inclusive.
Tenants at Empire Stores, a converted coffee warehouse, include advertising firm 72andSunny and sister media firms Laundry Service and Cycle.
The club recently opened an outpost in the Lower East Side called Ludlow House.
