The first building in Two Trees Management’s long-delayed Domino Sugar megaproject is scheduled to open this summer.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the 16-story, copper-and-zinc clad rental building at 325 Kent Avenue will open to residents in July.
The building, which holds 522 rental units, including 104 affordable apartments, is part of the $3 billion project that’s a decade in the making. When complete, the mixed-use five-building campus would include about 2,800 apartments and about 500,000 square feet of commercial space.
In addition to the building at 325 Kent, a second, mixed-use building, loosely designed based on the structure of sugar crystals, will rise 42 stories with concrete panels framing the windows. It will have a rectangular donut-hole cutout in the center.
Meanwhile, another tower at 260 Kent will be a mixed-use building. The residential tower (shaped like an upside “L”) will have 330 rentals, 20 percent of which will be designated affordable. It will be connected to a 22-story building with 150,000 square feet of office and 13,000 square feet of retail space. The two parts of the building will be connected via a fourth-floor landscaped deck as well as shared amenities including lounges and a fitness center.
Two Trees [TRDataCustom] is also planning two additional towers on the waterfront site, which could rise up to 55 stories. The main refinery building is being gutted and repurposed into office space that’s ideal for a single tenant. Three stories are being added to the top of the building, where the 40-foot Domino Sugar sign will be reinstalled. [WSJ] — E.B. Solomont
