WeWork launched a new business line dubbed “WeWork Wellness” that offers fitness classes and manages at least one gym.
The move comes as WeWork continues to broaden its business beyond the management of co-working spaces. Last year the company opened a co-living apartment building in Lower Manhattan and began a so-called “Enterprise” business, which offers office management services to large companies. Earlier this year it launched a real estate investment fund and revamped its company structure.
Quartz reported that WeWork plans to open a gym at 85 Broad Street, although a source close to the company told The Real Deal it will be more of a gym-spa hybrid with yoga studios, sauna and a meditation room.
“In other gyms, everyone is working on themselves, and that manifests in an environment that can be intimidating and isolation,” the cited job description reads. “At 85 Broad, we believe that charting your own path to fulfillment and motivating for holistic health go hand-in-hand with ‘affiliation’ (social bonds).”
The company also offers fitness classes via a WeWork Wellness app, most of which are free of charge, according to Quartz. [Quartz] — Konrad Putzier
