Christian Candy finds buyer for Plaza PH after $20M price cut

Triplex was last asking $39.75M

A deep-pocketed buyer just scooped up developer Christian Candy’s Plaza Hotel penthouse following a $20 million price chop.

The triplex — which hit the market asking $59 million in 2013 — went into contract after asking $39.75 million, according to StreetEasy. Candy — who built London’s One Hyde Park — paid $25.92 million for the 6,300-square-foot apartment in 2012.

The pad, which spans the 19th through 21st floors, has four bedrooms and 2,300 square feet of entertainment space, plus a 1,000-square-foot master floor suite that has a 31-foot-wide terrace.

Candy, who’s known for developing ultra-luxe homes worldwide, sold a mansion at 19 East 70th Street to financier Leon Black for $50.25 million in 2014. Candy paid $35 million for the home.

At The Plaza, Candy cut prices and switched brokers several times. Most recently, it was listed with Sotheby’s International Realty’s [TRDataCustom] Elizabeth Sample and Brenda Powers, who took over from Douglas Elliman’s Noble Black and Tal and Oren Alexander. Previously, it was marketed by Brown Harris Stevens’ Louis Buckworth, Paula Del Nunzio and Arabella Greene Buckworth.
