Jacob M. Safra, scion to one of the richest banking families in the world, is the buyer of Jackie Kennedy’s childhood apartment at 740 Park Avenue, according to city records.

Safra paid a tad over $25 million for the apartment, considerably less than its original 2014 asking price of $44 million. The sellers are hedge funder David Ganek and his wife Danielle, who paid $19.1 million for it in 2005. They also reportedly own an apartment at 150 Charles, which they bought under an LLC.

The apartment is a duplex that spans the sixth and seventh floors of the building, which is frequently considered the most prestigious co-op in the city. It was developed by Jackie O’s grandfather, James T. Lee, in 1930, and she lived there when she was a child with her parents. Serena Boardman and Jeremy Stein of Sotheby’s International and Tal and Oren Alexander of Douglas Elliman shared the listing.

Safra is the son of Moise Safra, co-founder of Banco Safra with his brothers, Edmond and Joseph. Jacob founded the private investment firms M. Safra & Co. and SPNY Capital LP. The Safra family made headlines in 2015, when they tried to sell three townhouses on the Upper East Side for a whopping $120 million (the homes have since been taken off the market).
