This $69M Lake Tahoe ranch is the ultimate glamping adventureland

It’s a bold move to name your house after Shakespeare (especially if Shakespeare himself never went anywhere near it). But then again, we have a feeling the Bard would have had quite a few choice words to say about this Lake Tahoe ranch — called ‘”the Shakespeare ranch”– which is on the for $69 million (down from $98 million when it was first listed in 2014).

Apparently, the name comes from a nearby rock outcropping that the original settlers in the area thought resembled the playwright. We can’t speak to that, but we can speak to how impressive this ranch is. Set on 129 acres, it was built in 1861 and this is the third time it has ever been on the market.

According to the listing, with Olivier Luxury Real Estate and Christie’s International Realty, the home comes with horse stabling and water rights (a big deal in Lake Tahoe, since both of those things are regulated); two-hundred feet of lake frontage plus five private deeded buoys; a total of seven residences and guest cabins (some of which have cute names like “To Be,” “Not to Be” and “King Lear”); a pool house with an indoor pool and steam spa; an artist’s loft; an “entertainment barn”; a private wine tasting room; and access to the nearby Glenbrook Golf Club.

This isn’t the first majorly expensive ranch to go up for sale in Lake Tahoe recently; another one, Crystal Pointe Lake, is on the market for a whopping $75 million.
