Mental health and housing nonprofit the Bridge is building a 115-unit affordable and supportive housing building in the South Bronx.
The seven-story building will be located in Claremont Village at 3500 Park Avenue and feature 69 supportive housing units for homeless disabled veterans, homeless disabled seniors and chronically homeless people with mental illnesses. The remaining units will be standard affordable housing, likely for households earning between 30 and 60 percent of Area Median Income, according to Bridge CEO Susan Wiviott.
The building will span 67,539 square feet, split between 20,532 square feet of community space and 47,007 square feet of residential space, according to plans filed Thursday with the Department of Buildings. It will also include a lobby, sitting area and activity room on the first floor.
The Bridge hopes to start construction on the $48 million housing project by the end of the year, Wiviott said.
The Bridge is also part of a team developing affordable housing projects on land owned by the New York City Housing Authority in the South Bronx: a 149-unit Senior Housing Building On East 142nd Street between Willis and Brook Avenues and a 101-unit apartment building nearby for low-income tenants.
