A look at some of the Manhattan streets named after women: MAP

From LLNYC: In an overwhelmingly male-dominated universe, a handful of women have taken to the streets in New York City — literally.

While the majority of eponymous streets in Manhattan honor accomplished men in U.S. history, a few boulevards and alleyways were saved just for the ladies.

The New York Times points to author Henry Moscow’s “The Street Book: An Encyclopedia of Manhattan’s Street Names and Their Origins.” It highlights some of those names and what they may have meant to the original urban developers who assigned them.
