More than a month after an electrical fire injured a dozen people at a multifamily building in the South Bronx, residents say they may ask a state judge to take the building away from the landlord.
There are still 225 open violations for the five-story building at 851 East 163rd Street where the fire broke out in July, DNAinfo reported.
Residents say electrical problems still persist and they fear for their safety, and the July fire helped motivate them to organize. The building’s tenants’ association is working with the nonprofit housing organization Banana Kelly, and says it will soon ask a judge to appoint an administrator to take the property over from landlord Hiram Colon.
