From LLNYC: The estate that inspired F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” just hit the market for $16.9 million on Long Island’s Gold Coast.
Located at 235 Middle Neck Road, the estate was said to be the inspiration for the fictional East Egg, the old-money bastion featured in the book and movie, according to the Post.

This enormous mansion has 13 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms and 11,955 square feet on 5.33 acres of land overlooking the water. The ceilings are 14 feet high, and lush gardens surround the perimeter along with large patios with views of the Long Island Sound. The listing describes it as classic, modern, warm and elegant.
This beautiful French-normandy style property was once owned by a close friend of Fitzgerald, Mary Harriman Rumsey. She was one of the people that shaped his view of millionaires and New Deal politics.

Of course this estate is fit for a Gatsby storyline, as it was designed by McKim, Mead & White known for the Brooklyn Museum, Columbia University’s main campus and the arch in Washington Square Park.
One certainly could live life like a 1920s Leo DiCaprio in this enormous estate.
