A one-story church at 6307 4th Avenue in Sunset Park will become a nine-story mixed-use building with 73 residential units, according to plans filed Wednesday with the city’s Department of Buildings. The plans were filed by Bishop Robert Rimbo of the Metropolitan New York Synod, a community of Lutherans based in Morningside Heights.
The building will span 57,516 square feet, with the residential units taking up 49,916 square feet and a community facility taking up 7,600 square feet, filings show. Fairstead Capital scooped up an affordable housing portfolio spanning 42 buildings in the neighborhood in June, and although Mayor Bill de Blasio has proposed that garment manufacturers shift their focus to Sunset Park, industry members have resisted the idea.
