From LLNYC: William P. Lauder, the executive chairman of Estée Lauder Companies and the grandson of the company’s founder, has just bought himself a new apartment at 998 Fifth Avenue for $24 million, per city records.
According to the listing, with Serena Boardman of Sotheby’s, the home has five bedrooms, six bathrooms, views of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park beyond it. The apartment was first listed in November 2016 for $29 million. Boardman was not immediately available to comment.
The apartment was owned by Ronald P. Stanton, the founder of the petrochemical company Trammo Inc. He died in September 2016.
Lauder is the son of Evelyn Lauder and Leonard Lauder, a major art collector and philanthropist (who, by coincidence, has donated a substantial amount of work to the Met). William was the subject of tabloid headlines in 2009, when he divorced his wife, Karen, after having a child with socialite Taylor Stein.
According to Forbes, William is worth about $1.4 billion.
