The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey appears to Be Leaning Toward Building A New Bus Terminal On The Eighth Avenue site, rather than opting to expand at another location.
During a board meeting on Thursday, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s chief of major capital projects Steven Plate said the “build-in-place” option is “potentially viable” from a construction and operation perspective, Crain’s reported. The agency has been considering multiple options in its plans to deal with the 70-year-old terminal.
The plan, according to the publication, is to build two new floors on top of the terminal that’s already there. Those levels would deal with the buses while the three lower levels are rebuilt. The authority has already requested that engineering and management services to provide proposals for the plan.
The agency has also mulled replacing the terminal on Eighth Avenue, and commissioned a report earlier this year as to whether it would be better to rebuilt in a new location or not. [Crain’s] — Miriam Hall
