DeNiro seeks permission again to redo Montauk home
Robert DeNiro may finally get to make over his home in Montauk. The Hollywood actor filed a new application with East Hampton’s Zoning Board of Appeals seeking to demolish his 1950s-era home just east of Hither Hills State Park and build a new one, 20 years after his first request to do so, 27east reports. DeNiro wants to build a two-story, 2,554-square-foot home that will occupy the same footprint as the original home. In 1997, DeNiro sought to add more than 4,000 square feet to the existing home, but was denied by the board, prompting the actor to sue — a move that proved unsuccessful. [27east]
Two Southampton council members come out against 600-acre luxury golf resort proposal
A pair of Southampton Town council members signaled their opposition to a contentious luxury golf resort proposal at a meeting this week. Without their support, an application for the nearly 600-acre project, “the Hills at Southampton” in East Quogue, is not likely to move forward, according to 27east. Southampton Town council members Julie Lofstad and John Bouvier said they would not vote in favor of the project’s findings statement, which is part of the environmental review needed for major developments, because of concerns over The Hills at Southampton’s impact on the aquifer. A council member’s stance on a findings statement is a key indicator to how the board will vote on the final proposal, the report noted. [27east]
