Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump routed their private email accounts to Trump Organization servers amid reports that they were using them to conduct government business, according to USA Today.
The newspaper claims that Kushner and his wife re-routed their email accounts on Sept. 26 or 27, citing Internet registration records and cyber security researchers. Two days earlier, on Sept. 24, Kushner’s attorney had publicly acknowledged that the White House senior adviser and presidential son-in-law had used his private email to communicate with other government officials.
The revelation caused an uproar in part because President Trump has repeatedly argued that his rival in last year’s election, Hillary Clinton, should go to prison for using a private email server to conduct government business and deleting some of those emails.
A Kushner spokesperson said the couple’s email account “does not reside and never has resided in, nor passed through, through the Trump Organization email server.” The spokesperson instead said they used a “filtering service” to block viruses and malware, USA Today reported.
Kushner’s private Internet domain was first registered in December, according to USA Today. As of late September, it was linked to two Trump Organization servers, according to the paper. The records don’t specify whether the emails remain on the Trump Organization server or if they just pass through and are delivered to another account, USA Today reported.
