Author Steven Gaines has put his Wainscott house — where he wrote some of his best-selling books, including “Philistines at the Hedgerow: Passion and Property in the Hamptons” — on the market for $3 million. The 3,200-square-foot home at 11 Westwood Road has four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms, as well as a 70-foot-long great room with nearly 20-foot ceilings and glass walls that open to the patio and in-ground pool, according to Newsday. The home once belonged to Bill Higgins, owner of The Swamp, a gay club in Wainscott. Gaines, co-founder of the Hamptons International Film Festival, told Newsday he is looking to downsize. “It’s a wonderful place to write, just not anymore in July and August,” he said. Bonny Aarons of Douglas Elliman has the listing. [Newsday]
