President Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen has cashed out at Trump World Tower, selling his apartment at the building for $3.3 million.
Cohen and his wife Laura were first deeded the apartment in 2001, when the skyscraper near the United Nations building was wrapping up construction. City public records indicate Cohen, who was not yet Trump Organization employee at the time, paid just over $1 million for the apartment. The three-bedroom condominium at 845 United Nations Plaza was listed for rent as recently as 2015 with a $12,750 per month price tag.
The new owners of the 15th floor apartment are Juhee and Vijay Jhalani, who already owned a unit on the 10th floor of the building, records show.
Cohen did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment. Cohen’s listed home address on sales documents for Trump World Tower is the apartment he shares with his wife at Trump Park Avenue, a hotel conversion where the Trump Organization launched sales in 2003.
Then a taxi entrepreneur and occasional real estate investor, Cohen joined the Trump Organization as executive vice president in 2006, serving as Trump’s personal attorney and sometimes spokesperson. In January, he announced he would continue to serve now-President Trump in that role. He has since become a key figure in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. In August, the New York Times reported on an email sent by Cohen to a Russian official during the presidential campaign, requesting help in building a Trump Tower in Moscow.
In September, Cohen was scheduled to meet with the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence in a closed-door session, but the event was scrapped at the last minute. Although the meeting didn’t occur, Cohen released a statement. “I emphatically state that I had nothing to do with any Russian involvement in our electoral process,” he said.
