Related Companies is planning to construct two new buildings in Far Rockaway, according to the office of Councilmember Donovan Richards.
The buildings would be located on a pair of sites by the corner of Mott Avenue and Gateway Boulevard, right by Related’s Gateway Apartments, a Section 8 development consisting of 364 units across five buildings. A new affordable housing building with 145 units would be located just north of Gateway, while a supportive housing building with 53 units would be located just south of Gateway.
The affordable housing building would also include 8,000 square feet of commercial space, and Related is planning to attach a public children’s playground to the supportive housing building that would be about 5,500 square feet.
Construction on the projects has not started yet, and Richards’ office did not have an estimate for when it would commence. Related did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The City Council recently voted unanimously to rezone Far Rockaway, a $288 million initiative meant to bring more than 3,000 residential units to the neighborhood. On city-owned land, all units would be affordable.
A 149-unit mixed-use project from the Marcal Group is also on its way to the neighborhood, and MDG Design + Construction recently signed a 99-year $109 million lease for a city-owned complex on Beach 54th Street.
