UPDATED, 5:53 p.m., Jan. 11: After getting a taste of Brooklyn six years ago, Stumptown Coffee Roasters is back.
The Portland, Oregon-based coffee chain signed a lease for the majority of a low-rise building at 212 Pacific Street in Boerum Hill, sources told The Real Deal. The space, which will house a new Stumptown retail location, offers 2,000 square feet on the ground floor and 500 square feet on the lower level.
Although Stumptown products are sold widely in Brooklyn, the only physical stores are in the Greenwich Village at 30 West 8th Street and at the Ace Hotel in NoMad at 18 West 29th Street.
Stumptown opened a 900-square-foot coffee bar in Red Hook at 219 Van Brunt Street in 2010, adjacent to its roasting plant. The company’s first retail location was short-lived; it closed two years later.
The Pacific Street building, located between Court Street and Boerum Place, was a 19th-Century former firehouse.
Artist and landlord Julian Laverdiere and his wife Erica Hohf own the two-story, 3,300-square-foot building, and run the film production design firm Empire Engine 19 there. Laverdie’s mother Sophia Truslow owned it for years until she died in 2014, property records show.
The asking rent for the space was not immediately clear, but the price per square foot on Boerum Hill’s Smith Street corridor is between $100 and $149, according to CPEX Real Estate’s 2017 retail report.
Christopher DeCrosta and Hank O’Donnell, who recently left Crown Retail Services to run their own Williamsburg-based brokerage GoodSpace.nyc, marketed the space on Laverdiere’s behalf. The brokers and Laverdiere declined to comment, and Stumptown could not be reached.
Stumptown also has locations in Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland, Seattle and New Orleans.
