A controversial hotel planned for Queens is one step closer to becoming a reality.
Flushing-based Super A Construction filed plans with the Department of Buildings on Monday for a six-story, 87-key hotel at 14-61 127th Street in College Point that would span 57,651 square feet, split between 34,022 square feet of commercial space and 23,682 square feet of community space.
Residents have been trying to block the project since January, and they have the support of state Senator Tony Avella. Avella and others previously sued the city over a proposed Willets Point development from Sterling Equities and Related Companies, arguing that it needed state approval to move forward since it was located on parkland. The city has since struck a deal with the developers to revise plans, which now call for 1,100 units of low-to moderate-income housing, retail, a school and open space.
Earlier this year, the DOB required Super A Construction to modify its hotel plans, according to the Queens Chronicle. At the time, the project included a nursery school on the second floor, which was inconsistent with the zoning.
The DOB has yet to review the new application, which instead includes an ambulatory diagnostic center and a house of worship on the second floor.
A representative for Super A Construction did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
