UPDATED, 5:08 p.m. Feb. 16: Coney Island Hospital is adding a gigantic new building to its campus.
The institution filed plans with the city’s Department of Buildings on Friday to construct a 10-story building at 2619 Ocean Parkway that would stand 206 feet tall and span about 903,000 square feet. The project would be right by its current 371-bed location at 2601 Ocean Parkway.
The project will serve as the hospital’s new resilient critical services building and include an emergency department on the second floor, along with a pharmacy and laboratory, according to New York City Health + Hospitals. Patients will have access to services such as x-rays, MRIs and CAT scans.
Funding for the building comes from a $1.6 billion Federal Emergency Management Agency grant that New York City’s public hospitals received in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Other projects planned for Coney Island include a 20-story, 216-unit apartment building at 2006 Surf Avenue from iStarand a 425-unit mixed-use project from John Catsimatidis’ Red Apple Group at 3514 Surf Avenue.
