Two years ago, landlord David Israeli tore down five buildings along Ninth Avenue. And now he’s ready to sell the site.
The site is located between West 37th and West 38th streets, and it can handle up to 185,000 square feet of development or up to 320,000 square feet if the purchaser secures available air rights from the Port Authority, according to Crain’s. Cushman & Wakefield will market the space.
Housing advocates criticized Israeli for his treatment of the site in 2015, accusing him of purposefully damaging the already-dilapidated buildings to convince the Department of Buildings to condemn them, thus clearing the way for Israeli to tear the buildings down and make room for a more profitable project. The buildings were addressed at 485, 487, 489, 491 and 497 Ninth Avenue. [Crain’s] – Eddie Small
