Paul Massey has left the Cushman & Wakefield building.
Massey told Cushman tristate region president John Santora last Friday that he would leave the company where he has worked since the end of 2014, when Cushman bought Massey Knakal Realty Services, according to the Commercial Observer. He has taken office space at 275 Madison Avenue, where former brokers at Massey Knakal recently left to join Cushman at 1290 Sixth Avenue.
It’s the latest in a string of executive departures at the commercial brokerage. Cushman vice chair James Nelson recently left for Avison Young, and the company fired executive vice chairman Peter Hennessy in March following an angry email he wrote to a high-ranking officer in the company over a new policy limiting travel expenses.
Massey is not allowed to start a new firm until June 30, when his noncompete and no-solicitation deals expire, and he cannot recruit brokers from Cushman for another project.
Massey and Bob Knakal started Massey Knakal in 1988. Massey also ran an unsuccessful campaign for New York’s Republican mayoral nomination last year, which ended when he dropped out in June. [CO] – Eddie Small
