After six years, Bohemia Realty Group is still singing and dancing through the streets of New York City staffed by a team of agents who largely come from backgrounds in the performing arts.
Founded by actors, the brokerage has maintained a stage presence both in the competitive world of Manhattan real estate and as the go-to real estate group for new casts gracing the city’s many theaters, according to the New York Times.
“Actors help actors, always,” as one of the brokerage’s founders, agent and Broadway actor Brian Letendre, told The Real Deal back in 2014. But Bohemia’s momentum has continued in large part due to some of the perhaps lesser obvious similarities between acting and real estate.
“Actors are good at solving problems and handling rejection, and that’s helpful in real estate, which is a fickle business,” Letendre told the Times. As a company, Bohemia’s used to seeing agents come and go as they get new roles that temporarily take them away from their careers as agents. “The door is always open,” he adds.
Another Bohemia agent who is also a playwright and an actor echoed the sentiment. “Real estate is constantly shifting. You have to hustle to be successful, which is the same as being an artist. We’re comfortable with instability. In fact, a lot of us thrive on it,” Emily Ackerman told the Times. [NYT]—Erin Hudson
