Contractors at Greystone condo project hit with wage theft lawsuits

The 10 workers allege they were duped by RSK Construction and Real Innovative Construction

A group of construction workers at an Upper West Side condominium project have filed lawsuits against their contractor bosses, claiming they are victims of wage theft.

The 10 tradesmen, who conducted work at 164 West 74th Street between April and June this year, are seeking damages of $100,000 against Mark McCarthy of RSK Construction and Andy and Carlos Morales of Real Innovative Construction, according to Commercial Observer. The cases were filed in state and federal courts, and claim the workers have not been paid overtime.

The lawsuit, which represents a group of rebar workers, general laborers and carpenters, alleges that they worked over 60 hours a week without getting paid overtime and their bosses regularly issued weekly paychecks that were $500 short.

The site, which is a conversion of an old drug rehabilitation facility, and is being developed by Greystone. The firm and its partner Prime Rok Real Estate bought the seven-story Beaux Arts property in February 2016, and paid $27 million. Dubbed “the Marbury,” the developers are converting the rehab facility into 14 luxury condominiums with plans to sell them out for a total of $61 million. [CO] — David Jeans
