A buyer is scooping up the East Hampton carriage house once owned by Edith Beale and Edith Beale, the reclusive mother-daughter pair who were featured in the documentary “Grey Gardens.” The 3,516-square-foot home is in contract for an amount below its most recent list price of $8.95 million, 27East reported. The 19th century home, which was designed by Joseph Greenleaf Thorpe, has five bedrooms, four bathrooms, waterview balconies, a heated pool and a two-car garage. This was the first time the carriage house had been on the market in 56 years. Frank Newbold and Marilyn Clark of Sotheby’s International Realty handled the listing. Grey Gardens’ 12-room main residence sold for $15.5 million in December 2017. [27east]
