Pershing Square Capital Management founder Bill Ackman is in contract to buy an Upper West Side penthouse formerly owned by late feminist author Nancy Friday.

The 13-room unit at 6 West 77th Street had an asking price of $22.5 million, according to StreetEasy. Friday, author of the book “My Secret Garden,” lived in the home from 1979 until her death last year. The apartment was listed in May by Brown Harris Stevens.

The proceeds of the co-op sale will be used to start the Nancy Friday Foundation, which will support emerging writers and animal welfare, the Wall Street Journal reported. Friday focused on topics of female sexuality and was once dubbed “the liberator of the female libido,” by Newsday.

The deal is Ackman’s latest purchase on the Upper West Side. Last year, the activist investor bought two units nearby at the Beresford building for nearly $22.1 million.

Otherwise, Ackman has been parting with a number of New York City apartments as he and his ex-wife split their marital assets. [WSJ] — Kathryn Brenzel
