Valerie Mnuchin — New York City socialite and sister to U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin — has snagged an Upper East Side townhouse for just over $6 million.
Public records show Mnuchin purchased the house at 172 East 71st Street through an entity dubbed Willow Sea LLC. The house has 3,750 square feet, four bedrooms and a glass-enclosed solarium. According to the listing, there’s another 1,500 square feet of basement and outdoor space, which includes a garden and patio. The seller, Richard Cooper, was represented by the Corcoran Group’s Charlie Attias.
Mnuchin, a lawyer who is on the board of the Child Mind Institute, is currently trying to sell her penthouse apartment at 898 Park Avenue for $13.2 million. She purchased that apartment for $8.35 million in 2014 and did a complete overhaul. Douglas Elliman’s Joan Swift has the listing.
In September, Steve Mnuchin listed his 6,500-square-foot co-op at 740 Park Avenue for $32.5 million. He reportedly bought the five-bedroom pad from his aunt, Carol Lederman, for $10.5 million in 2000. Lederman, an agent at Warburg Realty, has the listing along with Judy Kloner.
Steve and Valerie’s father, a former Goldman Sachs executive, is an art dealer and founder of the Mnuchin Gallery at 45 East 78th Street. He sold his townhouse at 14 East 95th Street for $14.25 million in 2015.
