New York’s Christian Cultural Center is partnering with Gotham Organization on a massive new affordable housing complex in East New York.

The buildings will include 2,100 apartments for low- and middle-income families and include senior housing as well, according to New York YIMBY. They will be constructed on a vacant parking lot at the church’s Brooklyn campus, which is based as 12020 Flatlands Avenue.

Amenities will include 24-hour child care, a grocery store and a performing arts center, and the project will feature more than two acres of public outdoor space as well. It will also feature a shuttle service running from the complex to the L and 3 trains.

Vishaan Chakrabarti from the Practice for Architecture and Urbanism will design the project.

East New York went through a controversial rezoning in 2016, and developers have planned multiple projects for the neighborhood since then. These include a 218-unit housing complex at 50 Pennsylvania Avenue from Pennrose Properties and a pair of hotels at 51 and 55 Sheffield Avenue from Nehalkumar Gandhi.  [YIMBY] – Eddie Small
