Stephen Ross backlash hits Hudson Yards

Designers Prabal Gurung and Dana Lorenz have spoken out against Ross’ Trump support

The backlash against Related Companies chair Stephen Ross for his Trump fundraiser has hit Hudson Yards.

Fashion designer Prabal Gurung announced on Twitter that he had been in talks to use The Vessel at Hudson Yards as the location of his brand’s 10th anniversary show during New York Fashion Week next month, but he decided to pull his participation after learning about Ross’ event, according to Elle.

“I was previously in conversation with Hudson Yards’ The Vessel as the venue for my brand’s upcoming 10 year show during NYFW,” Gurung wrote on Twitter. “When I heard about this fundraiser, I chose to pull my participation.”

Related’s Hudson Yards, which opened earlier this year, has made a big push to make itself the new home of New York Fashion Week.

Elsewhere in the fashion world, Fallon jewelry designer Dana Lorenz posted to Instagram that she is canceling her membership to the Council of Fashion Designers of America after realizing that Ross’ wife, Kara Ross, was a member of the council. Lorenz wrote that she “will no longer participate if a woman that funds the current administration remains on the board.”

The backlash against Ross started thanks to a Hamptons fundraiser he held over the weekend for President Donald Trump. It has been centered on Equinox and SoulCycle so far, with members and devotees threatening to boycott both brands, in which Ross holds ownership stakes.
