John Catsimatidis on why he should be mayor

Red Apple Group CEO finished second in 2013 GOP primary

John Catsimatidis ran for mayor once, and he might just do it again.

In an interview, the Red Apple Group CEO lamented the current state of affairs that have some folks wanting to leave New York City.

Catsimatidis placed second in the Republican primary in 2013, then sat out the race for Gracie Mansion four years later. But with Mayor Bill de Blasio term-limited in 2021, Catsimatidis said he’s considering launching another bid — perhaps as a Democrat.

“Well, somebody has to do it,” said the billionaire grocer, oil-refinery owner and developer. “The city is getting in worse shape and I’m very much concerned. I love New York.”
