One of the most anticipated new development projects in recent New York history launched smack in the middle of a global pandemic.

The Waldorf Astoria hoped to cash in on its pedigree and attract well-heeled buyers from all across the planet. But the economy has ground to a halt over the past few weeks, and activity at the high-end sales market is virtually frozen.
