At 2p.m. Pacific/5 p.m. Eastern today, leading lobbyists Suri Kasirer, Jonathan Bing and Michele de Milly will talk with TRDs Erik Engquist about real estate and the political environment during the pandemic and beyond.

Each of these lobbyists regularly goes to bat with state and city legislatures to pass initiatives the industry needs and block those that would harm it. This was already shaping up to be a challenging year after last Junes rent reform, but now developments are stalled, rent strikes are being organized and landlords are looking for relief themselves. Meanwhile, in a win for NYRAC, real estate ads will be subjected to stricter rules. There seems to be a whole new political landscape for real estate.

These three experts are steeped in New York politics and real estate issues.

Kasirer is president of Kasirer Inc. — a company she founded out an Upper West Side studio apartment in 1997 — has for most of the past decade has been the top-grossing lobbying firm in New York City. She was a special assistant to Gov. Cuomo — Mario, not Andrew. Kasirer’s vast client list includes 101 companies just in real estate and construction. Listed alphabetically, they include every letter in the alphabet except X, Y, and Z.

Michele de Milly is principal of Geto & DeMilly, which she co-founded in 1980 and has built into one of NY’s best-known lobbying firms. Before that she was a top official at the state agency that is now Empire State Development, which writes the rules for what is an essential business in New York. She’s advised countless large developments through the approval process. The 59 real estate clients on her firm’s website include many of the biggest names in the industry.

Jonathan Bing is a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, an international law firm with more than 300 lawyers in New York alone and a lobbying powerhouse here. Elected to five terms representing Manhattan in the state Assembly, Bing had 35 of his bills signed into law before leaving for the Cuomo administration, where he managed insurers that had become insolvent. At Greenberg Traurig he has clients in the hospitality and entertainment industries, including bars and restaurants and Broadway.

Listen in tonight to hear more about the plans they’re pushing for and the potential timelines for reopening New York.
