The village of Sea Cliff closed on the purchase of a 2.5-acre parcel from New York American Water as a result of a 2017 suit against the water company, according to Newsday.

Sea Cliff sued New York American Water claiming that “accounting inaccuracies” inflated customers’ bills. The two parties settled the suit last week.

The company agreed to several terms, including the sale of the property to the village at a $1 million discount.

With that discount, the village acquired the property for $540,000.

The property at 325 Prospect Avenue sits on the Long Island Sound waterfront and includes two utility pump houses and a large lawn.

Sea Cliff Mayor Elena Villafane said the village will conduct outreach to determine the best use of the property.

Villafane and trustees have said a “significant portion” of the property will in some way be used for the arts. She added that the pump houses need renovation work. [Newsday] — Dennis Lynch
