UPDATED June 22, 11:25 a.m.: A Central Park penthouse at an iconic building is in contract — more than a decade late and a few million short.
The unit at 115 Central Park West belonging to Susan Weber, ex-wife of billionaire George Soros, entered contract for $24.5 million, the New York Post reported. The figure is about half a million less than she paid for it in 2006.
The deal comes nearly 11 years after Weber initially listed it for $50 million. A StreetEasy listing shows the unit has been on and off the market in the years since, asking $27.5 million as recently as January.
The 6,000-square-foot duplex at the building known as the Majestic has five bedrooms and nearly 900 square feet of outdoor space.
It has a private elevator landing, a great room, open chef’s kitchen and a terrace with views of the park, the San Remo and Fifth Avenue. The primary suite has a home office and terrace.
Amenities at the building — a two-towered Art Deco building located across 72nd Street from fellow iconic residential property the Dakota — include a gym, a playroom, a rooftop solarium and a terrace.
Listing brokers Lisa K. Lippman and Gerard “Scott” Moore of Brown Harris Stevens declined the outlet’s request for comment. The unit’s listing history includes stints with Halstead Real Estate, Town Residential and Douglas Elliman before landing with BHS.
Activity in Manhattan’s luxury market has been strong in recent weeks.
Data by Olshan Realty on signed contract activity for homes asking at least $4 million show more than 30 contracts have been signed in each of the past three weeks.
The Upper West Side has been absent from the trophy properties leading contract activity in the borough, but the Westly development claimed an obscure local luxury record with a recent penthouse sale. The unit at 251 West 91st Street traded for $3,831 per square foot, making it the priciest condo sale per square foot above East and West 86th Street.
