Real estate investor Mendel Steiner of Brooklyn’s Borough Park died on Thursday at 33 years old.
Steiner, in his brief real estate career, acquired multifamily buildings across Chicago, Cleveland, Baltimore, Cincinnati and South Florida, according to loan documents, lawsuits and news reports.
The publication Boro Park 24 reported that he was a philanthropist, who supported Orthodox schools and institutions. The news outlet reported he had been unwell in recent years.
A funeral was held on Thursday night in Brooklyn’s Borough Park neighborhood at Shomrei Hadas.
The Real Deal could not confirm the cause of death.
Sources told TRD that Steiner had fallen on hard times in recent years. He had amassed thousands of units, according to one source. He had also donated money to Yeshivas and philanthropies in the U.S. and Israel.
Three properties tied to Steiner in South Florida faced foreclosure, according to the South Florida Business Journal. He had personally guaranteed the $3.26 million loan. When Steiner obtained the loan in 2022 it had a 9.25 percent interest, the publication reported.
This is a developing story.
