Extell Development’s plans for an Upper West Side supertall are coming into focus.

The firm is plotting an 86-story, 1,200-foot-tall building at 80 West 67th Street, according to public filings by an executive vice president for Extell. The plans call for 430 residential units and amenity spaces, as well as 25,000 square feet of retail space. Otherwise, the filing is short on details.

Extell did not respond to a request for comment from The Real Deal.

Gary Barnett’s been talking about a supertall at the neighborhood campus for a while. In May, he appeared before a community board, part of an effort to avoid a lengthy legal battle. He went as far as offering to build more than 100 across two smaller buildings to appease community members.

But community members and the local councilmember pushed for even more affordable housing. It’s unclear where those negotiations stand today.

“We definitely want a lot of affordable units and it has to be on-site,” Council member Gale Brewer said at the time.

Extell paid Silverstein Properties and Seven Valleys roughly $930 million in 2022 for the former Walt Disney Company-owned ABC campus and scored at least $900 million in acquisition financing from Guggenheim Partners and Aquarian Holdings.

The developer filed plans in December 2024 for two smaller buildings on the property that would include affordable housing.

In November, Extell filed plans for a 25-story, 355-foot-tall building with 58 residential units and ground-floor retail at 37 West 66th Street. The overall lot, however, is expected to feature 158 residential units, suggesting Extell plans for at least one other building.

Extell isn’t only making over its piece of the Upper West Side — it’s also making some in-house changes.

Andrew Chung recently came aboard as president and co-CEO, partnering with Barnett as the prolific condo builder turns its focus toward more commercial projects.

Chung’s track record includes institutional investment experience from his time at Carlyle and development expertise as a trailblazer of the mid-2010s last-mile warehouse boom after launching Innovo Property Group.

Chung will work closely with Barnett to oversee Extell’s strategic direction, development pipeline, capital relationships and long-term growth plans across its residential, commercial and mixed-use investments.
