Former Mets Ace Finds Gold With $26M Soho Flip

Zack Wheeler hasn’t played for the New York Mets in seven years, but he’s still pitching flamethrowers in the Big Apple housing market.

The Philadelphia Phillies ace and his wife, Dominique, sold the penthouse at 73 Wooster Street in Soho for $26 million, the New York Post reported. The deal breaks down to $5,400 per square foot, the highest average price per square foot in the neighborhood in the last five years, according to the publication.

The buyer’s identity was shielded by an LLC. The flip at the six-unit building was a two-year project for the Wheelers, who purchased Penthouse A in 2024 for $16 million.

Features of the 4,900-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-bathroom home include a gas fireplace, 15-foot ceilings and a 3,000-square-foot rooftop terrace with a swimming pool. There’s also a climate-controlled wine vault, an outdoor kitchen, a bocce court and a privately commissioned residential mural from celebrity tattoo artist Mr. K.

The asking price for the unit was $27 million. It was the priciest home in Manhattan’s luxury market to enter into contract between July 13 and July 19, according to a report from Olshan Realty.

Douglas Elliman’s Gavin Shiminski and Jonathan Stein held the listing.

“It was an opportunity to create something truly special and put our own stamp on an incredible property and city,” Dominique said of the investment property.

Wheeler debuted for the New York Mets in 2013 before signing a $118 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies ahead of the 2020 season. Wheeler — who has a Gold Glove, a strikeout crown and three All-Star trips to his name — is playing under a three-year, $126 million extension, and has said he plans to retire when it expires at the end of 2027.

Elsewhere in Soho, a 4,200-square-foot penthouse at Javeri Capital’s 10 Greene Street recently changed hands for $10.2 million. The buyer was Maximiliano Gerardo Caceres. The sale breaks down to about $2,400 per square foot. The unit, a triplex, has four bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms and a 1,700-square-foot terrace; its last asking price was $11.5 million.
