Former Cleveland Browns owner and billionaire Randy Lerner has drawn the ire of the Peconic Land Trust for chopping down trees on an Amagansett property he bought this past summer.
Lerner paid $12.5 million for the property on Town Lane and “immediately began clearing trees,” according to 27east.
The Peconic Land Trust is now seeking $1 million in damages per tree, claiming Lerner razed them in violation of a conservation easement it owns. Lerner said he cleared the trees because he planned to plant fruit trees and crops in their place. [27east]
